The project was an captivating and thought-provoking exploration of 1930s Budapest through the set design for the musical “She Loves Me,” based on Miklós László’s 1937 play “Parfumerie.” Our design journey involved months of research to create an authentic and immersive theatrical experience.
Sets
Maraczek’s Parfumerie
A sophisticated retail space featuring a central counter surrounded by polished wooden shelves and glass display cases. Brass accents, vintage perfume bottles, ornate mirrors, and nostalgic advertising posters create a warm, inviting atmosphere in soft pastels and golden tones.
Street Outside the Parfumerie
A vibrant urban scene capturing the bustling city streets, complete with shop fronts, street lamps, and benches. The meticulously crafted storefront window and door of Maraczek’s Parfumerie transport audiences to the heart of 1930s Budapest.
Backroom at Maraczek’s Parfumerie
An intimate behind-the-scenes area featuring a secondary counter for product preparation, a cozy break space with a table, chairs, coffee pot, and personal lockers – revealing the inner workings of the perfume shop.
Cafe Imperiale
An elegant café setting with small white-clothed tables and grey chairs, framed by rich red and white curtains, evoking the refined social spaces of the era.
Amalia’s Apartment
An intimate living space showcasing a bed, wooden dresser, side drawer, and ottoman – capturing the personal world of the protagonist.
Hospital Room
A simple yet poignant setting with a single bed, white sheets, a nightstand with a lamp, and a small table with a chair, highlighting the emotional depth of the production.
