ankole stool
Project Info.

The Ankole cow, revered by Uganda’s Banyankole people, has become an international symbol of cultural prestige through its magnificent horns. While many view cattle merely as sources of milk, meat, and leather, these majestic creatures embody a deeper cultural significance that transcends their utilitarian value in different cultures in Africa.

This profound cultural connection inspired us to look beyond conventional perspectives and create the Ankole Stool. The design captures the essence of the Ankole cow’s distinctive horns through a harmonious blend of materials: wood, slender steel rods, and an earthy finish that echoes the natural world.

A cow walking with the name of the Kingdom, reflects how deeply the Ankole cattle are woven into the cultural fabric of their region. The stool design honors this heritage while bridging past and present, tradition and innovation. It serves as a unique ambassador for Uganda’s rich cultural heritage in the global design community.

The Ankole Stool represents more than furniture; it embodies a cultural narrative that can enhance Uganda’s tourism sector by showcasing indigenous design excellence at international exhibitions. Its creation demonstrates how cultural exploration can create lasting value in tourism, offering visitors a tangible connection to Uganda’s heritage.

By bringing this stool into your living space, you become a custodian of living culture - a timeless gift that connects your home to centuries of Ankole tradition and craftsmanship.

It stands as a testament to how traditional elements can inspire contemporary design while preserving their cultural essence.
